MANHATTAN — Sorry, Gossip Girl. You picked the wrong neighborhood.

The Upper East Side is no longer home to the most prestigious school in New York with Forbes ranking, Trinity — on the Upper West Side — as the best in the country.

The magazine listed the top 20 prep schools nationwide, and seven were in New York City.

Horace Mann, of the Bronx, finished second. Then came a string of Upper East Side all-girls schools.

Elite girls schools Brearley came in fourth, Spence came in ninth and Chapin followed in tenth.

Collegiate, also of the Upper West Side, came in seventh.

Bringing up the rear for the city's entries on the top 20 was the Upper East Side's Dalton School, which came in No. 13.

Schools were ranked based on the ratio of students to faculty, the number of faculty members who had advanced degrees and how well endowed the school was, Forbes said. Schools were also ranked based on the number of graduates over the last five years that went to Ivy League and other top colleges.

"Prep schools are organized to ensure elite college placement — that's the whole idea," Stanford University Prof. Mitchell Stevens, who's written books on college admissions, told Forbes.
