MANHATTAN — "How I Met Your Mother" star Josh Radnor grew some indie-caliber facial scruff for a Wednesday night screening of "HappyThankYouMorePlease," a New York-based comedy of which he is the writer, director and star.

Radnor is not a New Yorker – he lives in LA – but he does play one on TV. He also lived in the city while studying for his MFA in acting at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, according to his IMDB profile.

Radnor plays likable architect Ted Mosby on CBS's also excessively syllabled sitcom.

Joining Radnor for the screening at the Ziegfeld Theater was "27 Dresses" bombshell Malin Akerman, who also starred opposite Vince Vaughn in 2009's Couples Retreat.

Meanwhile, another bearded comedian, David Cross, graced the Big Apple to promote his new standup album, "Bigger and Blackerer," at SoHo's Apple Store.

Cross played "never-nude" therapist Tobias Funke on the cult favorite, "Arrested Development."
