MANHATTAN — Access Community Health Center in the Financial District will be honored by the City Council for its H1N1 immunization efforts during the city's fight to prevent an epidemic last fall.

As the city prepared to provide 1 million doses of H1N1 vaccine across the city, Access made preparations to vaccinate a large amount of people quickly. At the heighth of the immunizations, Access was accepting uninsured as well as non-resident patients to provide care for at-risk communities.

“Even if you don’t have insurance, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t receive care,” said Jessica Williams, spokesperson for the health center at the time.

Access ultimately vaccinated more than 1,537 people, Williams said.

Dr. Fernando Carnavali, medical director of the center, will accept the proclamation from the Council at its full meeting April 14.
