MANHATTAN — Could Anderson Cooper replace Katie Couric on CBS Evening News?

The New York Times reported that the CNN star and recent buyer of a Greenwich Village firehouse had a meeting with CBS brass a few months back to talk about an anchor gig.

But Cooper's denied that he was looking to replace Couric. "Reports that Cooper has recently met with CBS News re: an anchor position are false," the spokesperson told Politico.  "He is not engaged in any additional conversations with them beyond those necessary for his continuing role on '60 Minutes.'"

Couric's contract is up next year and Cooper already has a relationship with CBS — he is a contributor to "60 Minutes."

"CBS executives, mindful that Katie Couric’s contract expires in a little over a year, have talked to Anderson Cooper of CNN about an anchor job, according to two TV veterans informed of the meeting," the Times reported.

It was unclear whether Cooper would be considered for Couric's job on the evening news program, the paper said. He has also been rumored to be in contention for a job on "The Early Show," the Times reported.
