MANHATTAN — Small power outages have hit Manhattan and more may be on the way as a deadly winter storm continues to batter the area, Con Edison confirmed.

Outages were reported early Friday morning on the Upper West Side at 79th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues and on 85th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West, Con Ed said.

"The majority of them are caused by weather-related occurances," a ConEd spokesperson said.

A partial outage cut the power to some residents at 61 W. 85th St.  But residents said they were just grateful it wasn't any worse.

"At least it's not the heat," one resident said.

ConEd said for partial outages like that, the best workers could do today was put in a temporary fix until they could regain access to the snow-covered manholes.

As the snow and day continued, more outages were reported.  In Greenwich Village, 294 customers were affected by partial outages on the intersection of Bedford Street and Sixth Avenue, according to Con Ed.  Another 240 customers were affected on Beford Street between Carmine and Downing Streets.  Dozens more experienced partial outages on Varick Street.

Smaller outages were reported across the rest of Manhattan.

Power was out sporadically throughout the metro region, with more than 28,000 customers without power in Westchester County and 2,300 customers in the dark in New York City.

For information on outages, ConEd has a map that is updated every 15 minutes.

A spokesperson told DNAinfo that the map was accurate.
