UPPER EAST SIDE — The principal is in, she just doesn't have an office yet.

The Department of Education has selected Medea McEvoy, the Executive Officer for Instruction for the department, as the principal for the new P.S. 267, starting the fall of 2010.

McEvoy began her career in education as a fifth grade teacher at P.S. 6 on Madison Avenue, said Jennifer Greenblatt, the District 2 liasion for the Parent Support Office.

Her first task as principal will be to coordinate how the newly minted school will share space with P.S. 158, on York Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets.

The new "incubator" school was formed after the DOE and parents groups worked together to form a new school as a way to relieve overcrowding around the neighborhood.

P.S. 267 will move into the space at P.S. 158 left vacant by East Side Middle School when that school moves into new facilities in the fall.

Eventually the school will move into the former Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat building when the school there, P.S. 59, moves back to its previous location on East 56th Street.

The school will start with a new batch of kindergarteners and add grades every year.

The DOE will hold a final public hearing on the formation of P.S. 267 at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March at P.S. 158.
