MANHATTAN — A man arrested in connection with a deadly Madison Avenue jewelry heist tried to unload thousands of dollars of the stolen goods to undercover police officers during a sting operation last week, police said.

Police followed a trail of stolen baubles from the Upper East Side robbery to Edmond Alma's Washington Heights apartment. Alma tried to sell nine pieces of the loot to an informant for $15,000, according to court documents.

A search of his apartment at 602 West 180th Street revealed 37 other items stolen from R.S. Durant on Jan. 27, police said.

Alma, who had two minor arrests dating to the 1980s, was arraigned on charges of possession of stolen property Friday.

Police have not implicated Alma in the death of shopkeeper Henry Menaheme, 71, who was fatally shot by a masked robber during the heist.

The NYPD launched a manhunt after the shooting death and offered reward money for the capture of the killer. The FBI joined the police in tracking down places where the stolen jewelry could be sold.

The masked thief made off with over $1 million worth of jewelry, according to police.

R.S. Durant has since re-opened for business with a security guard at the door and a replacement front-door buzzer.
