MANHATTAN — This story is begging for a reference to puppy love.

Single pet lovers and their canine companions will mingle at a pre-Valentine's Day mixer and benefit Tuesday evening in Midtown.

The "Yappy Hour" is a chance for singles and their pooches to meet and raise awareness for animal rescue.

Wendy Diamond, the author of "It's a Dog's World," started the event in 2001.

Don't have a furry wingman? Organizers say you can "rent" a doggy sidekick for a donation.

Diamond gave tips for those looking to impress a dog lover – flowers are good, a squeaky toy is even better.

The event will be held at the Muse Hotel on West 46th Street near Sixth Avenue. It starts at 6 pm and the "cost" of attending is a $50 donation to the Humane Society.

Interested parties and their pooches should call the Humane Society (212)752-4842.
