MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — An Upper East Side woman recalled on the witness stand on Monday how an on-duty NYPD officer tried to coerce her into giving him oral sex back in 2002.
The woman, who was a teenager at the time, testified that the officer, Wilfredo Rosario, approached her in Riverside Park late at night and offered to revoke a ticket for trespassing if she performed the sexual act.
Rosario has been accused of sexual abuse by several other women, and is facing pending rape and sexual abuse charges for those allegations.
The now 26-year-old victim said that back in 2002, her senior year at high school, she was out with a friend after dark when they were approached by a police car.
One of the officers in the car took her friend to another area of the park to question him, while Rosario propositioned her.
The woman, who works as a dog groomer on the Upper East Side, said she initially agreed to perform the act, but only to buy herself time.
"I said, 'Yes, but not now,' because i knew that i could get out of it if I gave myself enough time," she testified.
The victim said she kept Rosario talking to distract him.
"I'm so used to seeing it in television and movies. When you keep someone talking you're always saved," she said.
The teenager never met Rosado and eventually informed her parents who went to the authorities.
Rosado will is being tried separately for the other incidents, which are alleged to have taken place between 2003 to 2008.
