MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — A Manhattan judge has issued a bench warrant to a Columbia professor charged with assaulting a female university employee at a Morningside Heights bar after he failed to attend his Monday scheduled court appearance.

Lionel McIntyre, an urban planning professor, was at Toast on Broadway near 125th Street at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 6 with Margaret Davis when a fight broke out, according to the criminal complaint. The argument was reportedly racial in nature.

McIntyre, 59, allegedly punched Davis in the face and now faces assault and harassment charges.

Calls to McIntyre's legal aid attorney were not immediately returned. His next appearance was set for Jan. 26.

Columbia University professor Lionel McIntyre did not appear for his Monday court appearance and was issued a bench warrant by a Manhattan judge.
