MANHATTAN — The FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force arrested two men overnight in connection with last year's investigation of a Queens man charged with plotting a terrorist bombing in New York.

Adis Medunjanin, 25, and Zarein Ahmedzay, 24, both of Queens, are expected to be charged in Brooklyn federal court Friday, law enforcement sources say.

The apartments of both men had been searched by investigators last year as part of the investigation of Najibullah Zazi, the New York Times reported. Zazi, an airport shuttle driver, is facing life in prison following his arrest last September for allegedly plotting a terrorist bombing.

Medunjanin and Ahmedzay traveled with Zazi to Pakistan in 2008, the Times reported.

Medunjanin was arrested late Thursday after the vehicle he was driving crashed near the Whitestone Bridge.

Media reports say that at the time of the accident, he was being surveilled by the FBI's task force.

Earlier on Thursday, JTTF investigators had executed a federal search warrant at Medunjanin's apartment, FBI spokesman James Margolin said.

Robert Gottlieb, Medunjanin's attorney, told the Times two FBI agents came to the apartment at 3 PM with a search warrant for Medunjanin's passport which was being sought in connection with an investigation into a conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction and receiving military-type training from a foreign terrorist organization.

Gottlieb denied Medunjanin had committed any crime.

Ahmedzay was arrested by the JTTF early Friday, the FBI said.
