MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — A woman whose witness stand lies about being raped put an innocent man behind bars, may now do time herself.

Biurny Peguero Gonzalez, 27, pleaded guilty to perjury and was indicted on Monday in the case against William McCaffrey, who was convicted and sentenced to 20 years on kidnapping, rape and assault charges in 2006.

The New Jersey woman told police and prosecutors McCaffrey was part of a group of men who raped her at knife-point in a car in upper Manhattan 2005. She then lied to a grand jury and again on the witness stand at McCaffrey's trial, according to prosecutors.

The now-married new mother was reportedly overcome with guilt and admitted to the Manhattan District Attorney's office earlier this year her story was false.

McCaffrey served four years in prison before he was released on Aug. 31.

Gonzalez is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 9. She could get probation or up to seven years in prison, according to the DA's office.
