MANHATTAN — This is your DNAinfo afternoon update for Tuesday, December 8. It's 43 degrees and sunny, going down to the mid-30s and a chance of rain.

In your headlines:

A fire broke out in a Hamilton Heights restaurant this morning. It took firefighters an hour to bring the blaze at New Home Sing on Broadway and West 136th Street under control. The FDNY said nine police officers and one civilian were hurt during the blaze, none seriously.

The MTA is short 200 Million dollars because of a state funding mistake, the Daily News reports. The agency was supposed to be funded by a statewide payroll tax, but legislators overestimated the likely income. Now the agency could be forced to slash service and raise fares.

New federal math test scores for city students are raising questions about state test gains. The federal exam said 26 percent of 8th grade public school students are proficient in math, but the city claims 71 percent of students cleared the hurdle on state tests.

There's a rabid raccoon loose in Central Park. That's according to the city's Health Department, which is warning New Yorkers to steer clear of the critters.
