Trouble in Gotham: Crime news

MANHATTAN − The Afghan immigrant accused of plotting a bombing in New York had contact with a senior al-Qaida operative, intelligence officials told the Associated Press. Officials first become aware of Najibullah Zazi in late August, weeks before proscutors claim he was planning an attack that would coincide with the anniversary of 9/11. [NYDailyNews.com]

The NYPD officer who allegedly ran down a woman while drunk tried to revive her, a witness told the Daily News. Emmanuel Cenord said he and Officer Andrew Kelly pulled the woman's body from under a parked car and performed CPR, to no avail. [NYDailyNews.com]


A Monday morning melee on a busy Harlem street ended with three teenagers wounded, according to the Daily News. One victim, a 17-year-old boy, was shot in the buttocks, while two others were stabbed. There have been no arrested in the brawl, which took place around 9 a.m. at W. 140th Street and Eighth Avenue. [NYDailyNews.com]
