Near North Side police say they will step up DUI enforcement during an action-packed summer weekend.

David Purnell was acquitted of all charges after being arrested Jan. 1, 2014.

Sheriff's officers will now patrol the South Side and help Chicago police with other duties.

The suspect, who was not charged with a crime, was trying car doors near Chicago and State, police said.

The latest shooting comes after one man was killed and two others injured on the Near West Side Tuesday.

Windows at the Morgan Park Sports Center, Home Run Inn Pizza and elsewhere were damaged.

The inspector general's office reviewed 300,000 emails during the probe.

The fatal shooting occurred across from Touhy-Herbert Park. 

Someone spray-painted a police SUV sometime between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

The crew of pickpockets used a luggage cart as part of their ruse at the LondonHouse Hotel. 

The robberies occurred between the 8700 and 9500 blocks of south Ashland Avenue, police said.

"The beaches are safe," said Chicago Police Deputy Supt. Kevin Navarro.    

A cashier in Mount Greenwood said Wednesday the robber was captured on surveillance video.

Lt. Patrick Hannon died Jan. 15, 2011, leaving behind the wife whom he met on the job and two daughters.

The organizer of the Mount Greenwood pub crawl July 8 said the event will support a police charity.
