CHICAGO — The owners of the the forthcoming Fischman Public House and Bottle Shop announced an opening date Monday for their package goods store, ending nearly a year of anticipation for neighbors in the Six Corners Shopping District.

Last December, a few months after co-owners Shanna and Gus Karamaniolas ended Fischmans Liquors's 20-year run in downtown Jefferson Park, they announced a plan to build a new bottle shop and bar-restaurant in the same building as the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The owners are still "a few months out" from finishing the restaurant, but they'll host a grand opening for the bottle shop from noon to 8 p.m. on Nov. 11, Shanna Karamaniolas said Monday.

Their plan called to gut four vacant storefronts in the historic Portage Park building, combining three into an "Americanized tapas" restaurant with room for about 100 diners.

The remaining space, measuring roughly 1,000 square feet, would become an "upscale specialty store" stocked with craft beer, scotch and bourbon, Gus Karamaniolas said.
