SOUTH SHORE — The South Shore Opera Company will debut the recently completed orchestration for a new opera about the life of Paul Laurence Dunbar on Oct. 29.

The opera company has been working on “The Poet” about the poet and novelist’s life and will perform selections of the new orchestration at 4 p.m. at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. Shore Drive.

Baritone Adrian Dunn will perform as Dunbar in the opera by composer Steven Allen.

Tickets start at $50 for the performance, but the $175 tickets also include the group’s annual gala, reserved seats, a reception prior to the performance and a dinner afterwards.
