Englewood Jazz Fest Celebrates 18th Year Saturday

ENGLEWOOD — The 18th Annual Englewood Jazz Fest returns to Hamilton Park Saturday.

People can enjoy a day of smooth jazz at Hamilton Park, 513 W. 72nd St., from noon-6 p.m.

Spirit of Jazz Award recipients include Obert Davis, Howard Mandel and Mark Ruffin. They'll be awarded from 4:30-5 p.m.

Davis is an Emmy-Award winning trumpeter, composer and educator. He is also the co-founder, conductor and artistic director of Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, a 55-plus piece jazz-symphonic orchestra that brings together audiences of diverse backgrounds through multigenre projects.

Mandel is a Chicago native, writer, author and producer for National Public Radio. He has covered jazz and blues. He's president of the Jazz Journalists Association.

Ruffin is a two-time Emmy-winning broadcaster and journalist who played jazz on Chicago radio for more than 25 years.

Saturday's schedule:

Noon-1 p.m.: Young Masters

1:15-2:15 p.m.: Ernest Dawkins Jam Session Band with special guest Carolyn Fitzhugh

2:30-3:30 p.m.: Dee Alexander

3:30-4:30 p.m.: Live the Spirit Residency Big Band

4:30-5 p.m.: Spirit of Jazz Award

5-6 p.m.: Wallace Roney
