UPTOWN —  Cam Hoang has called Uptown home for most of her life and recently found a void in the community she wanted to fill.

"I noticed in recent years the lack of coffee shops [on Argyle Street]," she said. "This year, me and my sister decided to just go for it and do it ourselves."

The two, whose parents own the Vietnamese and Thai restaurant Cafe Hoang, are aiming to open First Sip Cafe at 1057 W. Argyle St. in October, said Hoang, who attended Swift Elementary and Trumbull Elementary.

First Sip Cafe will offer tea, coffee and an assortment of juices. It will also offer some light sandwiches and muffins, she said.

The cafe will be just a few feet from Cafe Hoang's flagship location at 1020 W. Argyle St.

In 1997, Doan Thi Sinh and her husband Huang Do immigrated to the U.S. through the Orderly Departure Program. After working for years at several Vietnamese businesses in Uptown, they decided to open their own business showcasing Hue cuisine.

The couple opened Cafe Hoang in 2000 and have since opened a second location at 232 W. Cermak Road in Chinatown.
