DOWNTOWN — Chicago's "Friday Night Flights" series of beer tastings has been making the rounds of the city's neighborhoods, with the glaring exception of Downtown — until now.

On Wednesday, the Mayor's Office announced that the Riverwalk has been added as a venue for the popular event.

The waterfront promenade will host 14 of Chicago's craft breweries, 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $15. Admission is good for 10 pours of 3 ounces. Food will be available from Riverwalk vendors at additional cost, and the evening will include free musical entertainment.

The Illinois Craft Brewers Guild and Choose Chicago announced the "Friday Night Flights" in May: Six fests, scheduled between June and August, each held in a different neighborhood brewing hub.

To date, the series has made stops in Bridgeport, Bucktown, Lincoln Park and Bronzeville, with the West Loop/West Town and Ravenswood stops still to come Friday and Aug. 25, respectively.

“The Friday Night Flights event will pair two of Chicago’s strongest attractions — our world-famous Riverwalk and world-renowned craft breweries,” Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.

Here's the Riverwalk's expected Friday Night Flights brewery lineup: Hopewell, Maplewood, Lake Effect, Begyle, Baderbrau, Haymarket, Band of Bohemia, Alulu Brewpub, Finch Beer Company, Motor Row, Eataly’s Birreria, Argus, Pipeworks and Alarmist Brewing.

The event will take place rain or shine.
