BUCKTOWN — An embattled Bucktown dance club that was forced to close in 2015 after a fight inside led to the slaying of a 21-year-old woman soon will see new life.

Nick Karaounos, co-owner of Logan Square music venue Concord Music Hall, has applied to do $176,800 in renovations to the former home of Koncrete dance club at 1675 N. Elston Ave., according to Chicago Cityscape, which tracks online permits. The permit was issued Thursday.

It's unclear whether Karaounos is planning to open a new music venue or something entirely different. The lawyer listed as the agent of Karaounos' corporation name, Elston Live, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. Neither did Concord's spokesman.

The fatal shooting happened outside Koncrete just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2015.

A fight between a group of men broke out inside Koncrete, which was hosting a private party that attracted about 250 people. When the owners kicked the men out of the club, the fight spilled out into the streets and gunfire erupted, injuring a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman. The woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Just a couple of days later, the club was forced to close after 2nd Ward Ald. Brian Hopkin,  whose ward includes the club, and the city's Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Department concluded that the club was a "threat [to] public welfare."

Owner Carey Weiman had run a club at that location since 1990. Before Koncrete, the club was called Krush. Before Krush, it was called The Prop House. Weiman has had a late-hour liquor license since 2008.

In addition to Concord Music Hall at 2047 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Logan Square, Karanous also owns Prysm Nightclub in Lincoln Park, according to his Facebook page.
