WEST RIDGE — A new project seeks to improve a 1.3 mile stretch of Howard Street shared between Chicago and Evanston.

At two upcoming community meetings, residents will be presented with plans and a proposed schedule that outline the scope of the project, which focuses on Howard Street between Sacramento and Winchester avenues, Ald. Debra Silverstein (50th) told constituents.

Improvements include protective and aesthetic features aimed at both bolstering safety for pedestrians as well as beautifying the area. Among those elements will be streetscape designs and public furniture, sidewalk improvements, more trees and better lighting.

Some designs are already in the works, which residents can see and discuss at the upcoming open houses.

Both meetings will present identical information, Silverstein said.

Learn more about the project from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave. in Evanston, or from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 28 at the St. Margaret Mary Activity Center in West Ridge, 7341 N. Claremont Ave.
