LINCOLN SQUARE — Neighbors can have a hand in building the Welles Park Nature Place natural area during Saturday's "It's Your Park Day."

Welles is among the dozens of parks that have signed up to take part in the citywide day of service hosted by the Chicago Parks Foundation.

Register to pitch in at Welles Park, 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave., where volunteers will be put to work building benches for the Nature Place, and also pick up trash and spruce up playground mulch.

The event runs from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Meet south of the park's gazebo.

Registration is requested (click here) so that organizers can adequately plan for the necessary amount of snacks, water and work supplies.

Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that a little dirt won't hurt.

The event will be held rain or shine, with the exception of extreme weather.

California Park and Independence Park are also volunteer sites Saturday.
