CHICAGO — Drive-by shooters killed a suburban man in Austin before getting in a crash and injuring a 71-year-old woman Friday evening, officials said.

An 18-year-old man was standing in the 1500 block of North Linder Avenue at 5:13 p.m. when shots were fired at him from a dark-colored SUV, police said.

After shooting the man his chest, the SUV driver headed west on LeMoyne Avenue and crashed into another car before driving off.

A 71-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The 18-year-old gunshot victim was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he died.

The man was identified as Romaine Lelkins, of suburban Naperville, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Lelkins was pronounced dead at 5:52 p.m. and an autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound in his chest in a homicide.

The Sun-Times reported that Lelkins had previously lived in the city before moving to the west suburb.

No one is in custody.
