ILLINOIS MEDICAL DISTRICT — Two teens have been charged in a recent strong-arm carjacking reported on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus earlier this month.

Police arrested two juvenile suspects, ages 16 and 17, in the May 16 robbery at the UIC South Wood Street parking garage at 1100 S. Wood St., UIC Police Chief Kevin Booker announced in a campus alert Wednesday. The teens were each charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, Booker said.

The carjacking victim, a UIC faculty member, reported that he was approached by two males on the third level of the parking garage and punched, police said. They then took the keys to his car and drove westbound in the victim's black 2015 Toyota Camry.

The UIC Police-Chicago Police Department Joint Robbery Task Force and the UIC Police detective division worked together on the case.

The carjacking followed a number of recent "bump-and-run" carjackings reported in the West Loop, West Town and on the Near West Side.
