AVONDALE — A Puerto Rican film festival, billed as Chicago's first, is coming to Avondale this week.

The "Boricua Film Festival" is set for 6-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, 3000 N. Elbridge Ave.

The fest was founded by filmmaker and producer Carlos Jiménez Flores to "fill a void for a community that does not have access to films being produced on the island by native storytellers," according to a news release.

On both nights the Chicago native will screen a collection of short films from Puerto Rican filmmakers. Skip Font, writer/director of shorts films such as "3000" and "Jessika," is scheduled to attend.

Tickets can be bought online. The suggested donation is $8.
