Jerry Jacobs, 37, Killed In South Chicago Shooting, Officials Say

CHICAGO — Jerry Jacobs, 37, was shot to death in South Chicago late Wednesday, officials said.

At 11:13 p.m., the man was walking on the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South Phillips Avenue when four men got out of a dark-colored car and fired shots, police said.

The man was hit in the right side of his body and he took himself to South Shore Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Jacobs, of the 6900 block of South Paxton, was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The man was a documented gang member, a police source said.

No one was in custody.
