ANDERSONVLLE — A number of local businesses are teaming up for one unified effort to give back as Valentine's Day approaches this year.

From Friday-Feb. 14, 27 Andersonville businesses will be donating 14 percent of sales to a charity or non-profit organization as part of "With Love From Andersonville," a fundraiser organized by Milk Handmade owner Hallie Borden.

"In our current political climate, there's an increased need to support organizations whose missions are under threat,” said Borden, whose business at 5137 N. Clark St. will be donating to Equality Illinois, which defends civil rights of the LGBTQ community. “I was overwhelmed with the amount of causes that need support, and instead of dividing our donation between so many deserving non-profits, I decided to reach out to the neighborhood to see how we could multiply the effect."

Other participating businesses will donate to causes such as Planned Parenthood, Northside Housing and Support Services, Southern Poverty Law Center and American Civil Liberties Union.

“Andersonville's small businesses are in a unique position to donate how they see fit without the concern of red tape and controversy,” Borden said.

Participating businesses include City Olive, Be Yoga Andersonville, Foursided, Hopleaf, Notice, Pork Shoppe, Women and Children First and Woolly Mammoth.

“These past few months have proven how united our community is, and I think our customers will be happy to be able to do some good during a busy shopping weekend," she said.
