WEST LOOP — High-tech vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson plans to move its U.S. headquarters to Fulton Market this year, the company announced Thursday.

Dyson plans to take over the third floor of 1330 W. Fulton Market, an office building developed by Sterling Bay. Ahead of the move, the company plans to add nearly 100 jobs this year, 70 in the Fulton Market office and 30 in a call center in suburban Aurora.

The new offices in Fulton Market will serve as a hub for Dyson’s sales and marketing operations in the US.

The move is part of the company's global growth, including a recent $312 million expansion of its global headquarters in the UK and the opening of a new $412 million tech center in Singapore next month.

Phil Molyneux, company president of the Americas, said the company's ambitions are higher than ever.

"We needed a space that reflects this mindset and can grow and flex as we do. The Fulton Market location places us squarely among like-minded tech giants and blossoming start-ups, while giving us a blank canvas to create a working environment that is uniquely Dyson," Molyneux said.

With space for 240 employees, the 40,686-square-foot office space construction will feature an open-office environment, promoting collaboration and minimizing hierarchy, Dyson representatives said. Dyson employees will help to influence the design, working with architecture firm Interior Architects.

Since 2007, Dyson's U.S. headquarters has been, and is currently located, at 600 W. Chicago Ave.

Dyson's move to red-hot Fulton Market comes as a number of companies have moved or are making plans to move to the neighborhood, including Google, McDonald's and Glassdoor.
