CHICAGO — A 14-year-old boy has died after he was pulled from a Chicago Public School pool in Garfield Ridge.

At 1:20 p.m., the boy was found unresponsive at the school in the 6300 block of West 56th Street, police said.

Wednesday afternoon, fire crews found the boy in the pool area after he was pulled from the pool at Kennedy High School.

The boy was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn in critical condition, police said.

The boy was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Rosario Gomez, of the 5100 block of South Springfield. He was pronounced dead at 2:18 p.m., according to office.

Detectives are conducting a death investigation, police said.

The Tribune reported that Gomez had been diagnosed with autism, enjoyed school and wanted to be a train conductor. "He was a really well-loved child," a relative told the paper.

An investigation into how the drowning happened has been launched, according to CPS.
