WICKER PARK — Speakeasy-inspired cocktail lounge The Violet Hour changes its drink offerings with the seasons and will begin serving up concoctions from its winter menu beginning this Tuesday night.
The new cocktail list offers "esteemed classics" as well as "luscious, and hot innovative offerings house-crafted with Winter’s most compelling ingredients and flavors in mind," owners One Off Hospitality Group announced in a news release.
Some of the new highlights for this winter at the The Violet Hour — which opened in 2007 and traces its name to a T.S. Eliot poem — include:
Velvet Flip: a two-tone, creamy egg nog with deep malty flavors.
Goodbye Now, Ta-Ta Then: a shaken pie-spiced sherry cobbler, with coffee-pecan bitters.
Fresh Metal: a shaken, evocative play on the Mai Tai with an absinthe finish.
The Violet Hour Toddy: the lounge's only hot cocktail for the season which marries Jim Beam Rye, Ramazzotti, Demerara, Lemon, and Angostura.
Velvet Flip: a two-tone, creamy egg nog with deep malty flavors
Pajama Boy: The stirred and boozy love child of a Manhattan and Old Fashioned with jammy pear and Alpine notes.
Held Hostage: fruit, nuts, and a warming luxurious texture featuring Lazzaroni Amaretto and Fernet.
The Violet Hour, 1520 N. Damen Ave. is open from 6 p.m to 2 a.m Sunday - Thursday and 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday.
