RAVENSWOOD — Who makes the best baguette in Chicago?

More than a half dozen bakeries — including La Boulangerie, Floriole and La Farine — will compete in the inaugural Baguette Battle from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Sofitel hotel, 20 E. Chestnut St.

Deceptively simple in terms of ingredients and appearance, this quintessentially French loaf of bread tests the skills of even the most talented bakers.

The event is open to the public, with a limited number of $20 early bird tickets now on sale (click here); regular admission is $40. The fee includes bread samplings, a selection of cheese and charcuterie, and a glass of wine.

A jury panel will select the Grand Prix and Specialty Bread winners, with attendees awarding the Fan Choice honor.
