CHICAGO — Lawrence Matchem, 49, was shot dead in Bronzeville Monday, officials said.

Officers responded to a call of a person down in the 800 block of East 40th Street and found the man unresponsive, police said.

The man had been shot in his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Matchem, of the 4400 block of South Lacrosse, was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy showed he died of a multiple gunshot wound in a homicide.

No one was in custody.
