JEFFERSON PARK — Stay ahead of the sniffly winter blues with a free flu shot courtesy of State Sen. John Mulroe and State Rep. Robert Martwick Thursday in Jefferson Park.

Mulroe and Martwick, who are both Democrats, will offer flu vaccinations free of charge to residents of Illinois 10th State Senate District and the 19th House District from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the officials' office, 5940 N. Milwaukee Ave.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the influenza virus generally peaks in January and February and in serious cases can lead to hospitalization or even death.

The CDC recommends flu shots especially for the elderly and very young, who are most vulnerable to complications from the illness.

In addition, officials from State Treasurer Michael Frerichs' office will be on hand with about information about how residents can reclaim lost property through the iCash program.

Attendees should bring identification that specifies their address, organizers said.
