RIVER NORTH — Flamingo Rum Club, a new cocktail bar touting mid-century Cuban elegance and the "largest rum selection in the country," is set to open next month in River North.

The bar led by restaurateurs Phil Stefani and Adolfo Garcia is scheduled to open Saturday, Oct. 8 at 601 N. Wells St., according to a spokeswoman.

The rum club will have cabaret seats and is inspired by the glam of 1940s and 1950s Cuba, when the Caribbean island played host to the likes of Ava Gardner and Ernest Hemingway.

"Guests can expect nothing less than the largest rum selection in the country, bartenders in pink tuxedos, waitresses in floral dresses ... Cuban cuisine and the feeling of an intimate speakeasy cabaret," the restaurant says on its website

Crews are finishing up the bar's lively flamingo-laden exterior this week. Inside, the decor will include a brass bar, an eight-foot mounted marlin, and cement tiles imported from the Dominican Republic, according to the restaurant.

The rum club will be the second venture between Stefani and Garcia, two veteran restaurateurs who opened Broken English Taco Pub in May near Millennium Park. Other details including the bar's menu and hours have yet to be determined.
