CHICAGO — The '85 Bears are still shufflin' on public television.

“’85: The Story of the Greatest Team in Pro Football History” will air for the first time at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 on WTTW-Channel 11. It was originally scheduled to air Tuesday night but hit a "technical snag," a spokeswoman said.

The two-hour documentary is a venture between Bears legend Otis Wilson and local lawyers and filmmakers Scott Prestin and Rich Lenkov — the latter of whom previously produced a documentary about the 1994 Montreal Expos.

Their Bears film will follow another released in February by ESPN, but Lenkov said "the world needs more than one Bears documentary."

"We felt it was our duty to deliver some stuff people haven't heard," he said. "There's a lot more our story provides."

That includes interviews with not only players from the legendary team, but Chicago superfans including President Barack Obama, Bill Murray, and some of "Bill Swerski's Superfans" from Saturday Night Live.

"It’s told from the fan’s perspective by a couple of local guys from Chicago," Lenkov said.

And that's why, according to one WTTW executive, the station picked up the film.

"We knew our audience, in this huge sports town, would love the film," said Dan Soles, the chief television officer of WTTW. “It will be especially meaningful for them to hear the story from a uniquely local point of view, as told by members of the team, prominent Chicagoans, and hometown fans who experienced it.”
