BUCKTOWN — After a bearded dragon lizard was found in a yard near Homer and Leavitt streets in Bucktown during overpowering storms, the maintenance man temporarily caring for the reptile is pleading for its owners — or a new adoptive parent — to come forward.

"He's beautiful, he's real healthy. He needs a home," said Roman Varallo, who took the lizard in on Sunday after a woman who found the dragon in her yard on Friday night said she couldn't care for him.

Bearded dragons usually have a lifespan of three to 10 years and are under 2-feet-long, with most of that length in their tails, according to Petco.

Varallo said that the lizard was discovered in a yard in the 2200 block of West Homer Street.

"He got loose or someone let him go. He can't survive by himself," said Varallo.

On Monday morning, Varallo said he put the reptile into a cage and fed him some strawberries and cauliflower.

If anyone knows the lizard's owner, call Varallo at 224-245-3115.
