WEST TOWN — A man and a woman walked into a suburban hospital early Sunday and said they'd been shot in the Ukrainian Village area of West Town, police said.

The man, 23, and the woman, 28, arrived at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn at 5:20 a.m., according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. They reported being shot at the intersection of Western Avenue and Chicago Avenue.

The man had been shot in his shoulder and back, and the woman had been shot in her left arm, Lemmon said. Both were listed in serious condition.

Police said both people have criminal backgrounds, and the man is a documented gang member.
