Bridgeport Company Gives 1,500 Blue Bulbs To Honor Police In Garfield Ridge

GARFIELD RIDGE — Neighborhood porches are glowing blue in honor of police officers.

Midwest Industrial Lighting, a Bridgeport company at 919 W. 38th St., recently donated more than 1,500 blue light bulbs to the Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch to pass around the area for its "Blue Stands Strong" campaign honoring officers killed in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

“I said, ‘You can have all you want,’” said company owner Mike Noonan. “I’ve got a son-in-law that’s a Chicago copper."

Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch is passing out the light bulbs for a $1 donation. All proceeds go to the families of fallen officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

So far the campaign has raised $2,500 for Dallas families.

“We want people to participate and be active in their community,” said Janja Taylor, a Garfield Watch Neighborhood Watch board member. “If they can back up police officers, maybe they can learn how to be more self-sufficient in taking care of themselves and becoming more neighborly together.”

A drive through the neighborhood, known for its heavy concentration of cops and firefighters, shows Garfield Ridge residents have come together to support local authorities.

Blue ribbons cover trees and light poles for blocks.

“It’s the simplest way to reflect support,” said Al Torres, a Garfield Ridge resident with a blue light bulb above his door. “It shows that the community is strong and together and combined.”

If you want a blue bulb, send a message to Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch on Facebook.

“It’s just a small gesture,” Torres said. "It shows a lot of support.”
