WICKER PARK — Two men were shot in Wicker Park's bustling Milwaukee, Damen and North avenue intersection early Saturday, according to police.
Around 3 a.m., two men, 26 and 22, were standing in the sidewalk of the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when they "heard gunfire and felt pain," according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
The 26-year-old was shot in the leg, and the 22-year-old suffered a graze wound to his left ankle.
Both were taken to area hospitals in stable condition, Lemmon said.
A police source said the gunfire occurred near 1585 N. Milwaukee Ave., at the corner Flat Iron Building. A Sun-Times reporter who was on the scene published a photo of one of the wounded men in the intersection, between Tavern bar and the Flat Iron building.
Both of the men were documented gang members, Lemmon said.
It is not known if the shootings were gang related and no one is in custody. Area North detectives are investigating, Lemmon said.
Around 7 a.m. Saturday, crime scene and caution tape were piled atop an overflowing trash can in front of the Flat Iron building.
The block is packed with bars, as well as late night food options such as Flash Taco.
