Austin Shootings Wound 5 Monday Evening, Police Say

AUSTIN — Five people were shot in Austin, including a 14-year-old boy, between 5 and 10 p.m. Monday night, police said.

• Most recently, around 10 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the 5600 block of West Madison Street, according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound in the leg, Amezaga said.

Police said the man was uncooperative and did not provide any other information on the shooting.

• At 7:10 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was walking two blocks away, in the 5600 block of West West End Avenue, when a group of people walked up and shot at him, police said.

The boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound in the foot, police said. Police could not provide his condition but said he was "stable."

• Around 5:50 p.m., three men were standing in the 400 block of South Lotus Avenue when someone shot at them from a passing car, police said.

One man, 19, was brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound in the back, police said.

Two other men, 18 and 23, were brought to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said. 

Police said all three men were documented gang members.

No one is in custody, police said.
