HYDE PARK — Two people were shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide in Hyde Park Saturday morning, police said.

Just before 10 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on a home in the 1400 block of East 54th Street, where they found a woman and a man unconscious with gunshot wounds in their heads, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man's wound appeared to be self-inflicted, Zala said, leading detectives to believe he shot the woman before turning the gun on himself.

Both people were pronounced dead on scene, Zala said.
