CHICAGO — A 16-year-old boy was shot to death in Englewood on Friday night, police said.

About 9 p.m., Melvin Cook was the passenger in a car driving through an alley in the 6500 block of South Hamilton Avenue when two men walked up and opened fire, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Cook, of the 5700 block of South Calumet Avenue, was shot in his head, Zala said. He was pronounced dead at 9:27 p.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

The driver of the car ran out, Zala said.

No one was in custody.
