CHICAGO — Three robbers stole a man's car at gunpoint, then robbed a woman who witnessed the carjacking, police said.

About 11 p.m., a 51-year-old man had just parked his car in the 2000 block of West Thomas Street when three men walked up to him, took out a gun and took his car keys, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. One of the men hit the victim in the back of his neck.

At the same time, the men spotted a 24-year-old woman who had witnessed the robbery, Lemmon said. They demanded the woman's purse.

The men drove off in the car, but police saw the car and tried to force it to stop, Lemmon said. The men got out of the car and ran away.

The men left the woman's purse in the car, and the woman got her purse back and the man got his car back, Lemmon said. The man who was hit refused medical attention.
