WEST LOOP — In an effort to inform neighbors about the recently-adopted Neighborhood Opportunity Fund, a West Loop group will host a community meeting on development later this month.

Neighbors of West Loop will host a community meeting on the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund's potential impact on the West Loop at 7 p.m. June 20 at Merit School of Music, 38 S. Peoria St. All neighbors are invited to attend.

During the meeting, Neighbors of West Loop leaders will introduce the Neighborhood Plan, a new initiative designed to bring together residents from across the West Loop to tackles issues like building height, traffic congestion, parking and other quality-of-life issues.

West Loop neighbors interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP online.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's recently-approved neighborhood development plan lets developers build in a expanded downtown area — adding 800 additional acres in an area that includes the West Loop — and build bigger and taller projects in an effort to generate millions to rebuild blighted neighborhoods on the city's West and South sides, according to the Sun-Times.

Neighbors of West Loop is a neighborhood organization formed by residents that aims to bring people together in the West Loop who want to make a positive impact on the community. The group actively participates in the review of proposed developments, the enhancement of parks and green space and other efforts to support and highlight the neighborhood.
