NORTH CENTER — With its free air pump on the sidewalk, the Easy Rider Bike Shop was a savior for many a cyclist.

Now a sale is pending on the bike shop and its sister business, the Horseshoe Bar, at 4115-19 N. Lincoln Ave., after the death of owner Mohammed "Mike" Masud.

A quintessential dive bar, the Horseshoe was also a popular venue for live country and western music.

Masud, who opened Easy Rider more than 40 years ago, died in January. The bike shop and bar were listed for $1.2 million and are now under contract to an undisclosed buyer.

Earlier in May, members of Chicago's cycling community spread the word that the shop was selling off bike tools and parts in preparation of leaving the building.

Recreational cyclists bringing their bikes out of storage with the recent warm temperatures have been stopping by Easy Rider all week only to learn of its closing, according to staff at neighboring Bottles & Cans.
