HUMBOLDT PARK — Sportsman's Club is bringing back a popular Sunday backyard BBQ series featuring guest chefs along with new Thursday cookouts "to take full advantage of the all too brief alfresco season," organizers from the Western Avenue bar said.
Now in its third year, the lineup will kick off at 3 p.m. Sunday with the recently opened Kimski. Chef Won Kim will serve up Polish-Korean street food.
Other newcomers to the backyard events, which run through late September, include Bar Marta, GreenRiver and St. Lou's Assembly, as well as El Che Bar's John Manion. And neighboring Boeufhaus, The Winchester and Rootstock are set return to the hearth, too, according to a news release.
The cost for a plate of food and a beer is $20. The food will be available until it runs out. The bar hours are 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mon.-Fri.; 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sat.; and 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Sun.
Private supper club chef Kevin Cowens will take up residency on the grill every Tuesday for the entire season, while intrepid grillers from Publican Quality Meats will cook in the backyard patio on the first Thursday of every month from June through September.
Fans can also expect a new collaboration beer. This season, Sportsman's Club partnered with Penrose to create "Pitcher Beer," a petite sour that is crisp, dry and drinkable with a quenching bit of tartness. The new beer is available by the glass or of course, pitcher.
