DOWNTOWN — Chicago's public schools need "S'more money" was one of the rallying cries at Wednesday's "Billion-Dollar Bake Sale" protest of pending "doomsday" cuts to school budgets.
Organized by the advocacy group Raise Your Hand, the demonstration outside the Thompson Center called for sustainable revenue, not another "half-baked" solution to Chicago Public Schools' funding crisis.
"We can't budget-slash or bake-sale our way out of this fiscal mess," Raise Your Hand said in calling for Wednesday's rally.
Plenty of protestors had fun with the theme, depicting Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Governor Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Mike Madigan as the three gingerbread men of the apocalypse, among other clever signs.
But their message was dead serious: No more crumbs for Chicago's public school students.
