DOWNTOWN — Now you can design gummy candy, watch it being made and eat it — thanks to the first 3-D Gummy Printer in the United States in Dylan’s Candy Bar Downtown.

Katjes Fassin UK has partnered with Dylan’s Candy Bar on the Magic Candy Factory, a unique gummy candy-making experience. Located on the first floor of Dylan’s Candy Bar, the 3-D Gummy Printer station will be open to the public starting Wednesday.

The 3-D Gummy Printer can make anything from the Chicago Skyline to a gummy version of your favorite animal. The printer is hooked to a plug-and-play app. You can upload your photo and get a gummy candy version of yourself or write a personal message. The printer gets the signal from the app and designs your custom-made gummy candy.

“The main thing people enjoy is first you get to create, and then you get to watch your creation come to life,” said Melissa Snover, managing director of Magic Candy Factory.

The candies are available in eight flavors, including mango, black current, green apple, strawberry and Britain’s favorite, elderberry. They are made from a special recipe that includes a vegan blend of ingredients like pectin, citric acid, fruit puree and glucose.

A normal gummy making-machine uses the molding process to make the gummy candies that take three to five days to dry, and they must be mass-produced. The 3-D Gummy Printer takes five minutes and produces custom-made candies according to each customer’s taste.

“The most amazing part about this is, usually when things look this pretty, it doesn’t taste that good, but this is pretty and tasty,” said Gianni Booker, a staff member at Dylan's Candy Bar.

The gummy candies are served in a white cardboard that is then placed in a box. The candies can also serve as gifts for birthdays and weddings, Snover said.

The printer has been launched in Europe and Dubai with flavors like black current and elderberry doing very well. It is a unique, hands-on experience that people love, Snover said.

The gummy candy is good for up to a year. Each costs $20.
