HYDE PARK — It’s not too late for gardeners to get some free tomatoes at the Hyde Park Art Center.

Every May in Hyde Park, pallets of tomato plants go up for grabs for free — well almost free — a note or poem is recommended as a donation.

The plant give-away started late Sunday at the Hyde Park Art Center, 5200 S. Cornell Ave., and there were still lots of plants available as of Monday.

The plants are part of the ongoing General Economy, Exquisite Exchange project by the Cream Co. artists collaborative and has also been held at the Logan Center for the Arts in past years.

Plants are available until they run out and will be open for pick-up anytime the art center is open, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday — but don’t expect plants to last until Sunday.
